Owning a swimming pool can pose many challenges. It is not always a choice to remodel a pool, in some cases, especially in the Palos Verdes Peninsula area it is a definite requirement to maintain the pool structure within the environment the pool is located. Expansive soil creates many stresses on the pool structure especially on the decking area around the pool developing cracks that need to be repaired as soon as possible to prevent water loss and further damage.
Most of Palos Verdes commonly known as “the hill” has expansive clay-type soil which through the seasons expands and contracts. We have great experience with this area and approach to how we repair existing structural cracks through the pool shell, deck, tile, and coping. We’ve come to conclude the best approach to structural cracks within the pool shell is the epoxy injection method proven greatly by our partners who have experience working with the state highway and parking structure systems. Although there is no guarantee on what the Earth may do, we believe this is the best approach and has had a very high success rate compared to other invasive limited repair methods. We can also take smaller cracks and work with them to help maintain most important of all keep water within the existing pool structure!
If you think your pool is leaking, or losing excessive water more than 1.5 inches per week in the summertime, and if there are no structural cracks present it would most likely be in the plumbing system, most commonly copper plumbing which was used in all swimming pool construction prior to 1980. It is very common for chemicals over time to wear away the copper plumbing and eventually produce leaks, especially around the skimmer suction lines. Bluish-green stains on the plaster indicate copper sulfate which is the copper slowly being deposited on the surface of the plaster. We have various ways of leak detection to pinpoint where a pool might be leaking. If you have any questions and would like an estimate please give us a call!
